We can all agree that we have at some point taken water availability for granted. Most of the people reading this have the privilege of 24×7 running water supply. But we need to remember that water is a finite resource and a large population of the planet is already facing water shortages. Most houses have a water storage tank installed that takes care of the supply everyday but rarely do we gauge that amount. As the leading water tank distributor and water tank manufacturers in bangalore and we not only prioritise judicial use of the natural resource. Here are some simple tips on water conservation we can all practice at home to do our bit for the planet.
First and foremost check that there are no leaking taps or pipes anywhere in the house. A persistent drip can lead to several litres of water wastage. The most common is a leaking flush. You can put a few drops of food coloring into the tank or use an in-cistern cleaner like Harpic Flushmatic, if colour bleeds into the toilet without flushing you have a leaking tank.
A lot of the time the amount of water that flows out of taps and showers is more than we need. With flow restrictors and water saving shower heads installed in all the taps you can control and limit the water flow, and save gallons of water on a daily basis.
By this we don’t mean, letting it mellow. We can recalibrate the total amount of water used to flush toilets simply by installing dual flush or low flow toilets or fitting a conversion kit into the existing ones. A simple DIY hack would be to place a one litre bottle, filled with water and a couple inches of sand or pebbles, in the flush tank. Make sure it is away from the operating mechanism.
We don’t realise this but in our daily brushing, washing and bathing ritual we end up wasting a lot of water. Remember to turn the faucet off while brushing, shaving or applying soap. Take shorter showers and try to use a bucket to bathe.

Water used to rinse vegetables, fruits and grains can be saved to water plants and for other cleaning purposes.
Since the temperature is usually cool during the early hours of the day, it would take comparatively less water to water plants and the loss due to evaporation is limited. Also, watering plants in the evening is known to cause mould growth.
The simplest way to incorporate that into a house would be to install rainwater barrels. The water collected is relatively clean and soft and can be used for non drinking purposes like gardening and cleaning.
